Walter Kunicki is senior vice president – State Public Affairs. He was appointed to that position in May 2007 after serving as vice president - Customer Relations since 2000. In addition, he is a vice president of Wisconsin Energy Corp. since 2001 and president and chief executive officer – Minergy since 2005. In his current role as senior vice president – State Public Affairs, Kunicki directs the company’s relationship-building activities with state and local officials. Kunicki also has executive responsibility for Minergy, a wholly owned, non-regulated, non-utility subsidiary that recovers energy through a bio-solid recycling process. Prior to joining the company in 1998, Kunicki served as representative for Wisconsin’s 8th Assembly District. Kunicki was first elected to the state Assembly in 1980. He served as speaker of the Assembly from 1991 to 1995 and was the minority leader from 1995 to 1998. During his time in the legislature, Kunicki served on a number of committees including the Joint Committee on Employment Relations, the Joint Committee on Legislative Organization, and as chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 1980. Kunicki is a member of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation and the National Speakers Conference.
